Painting the Natural California Landscape with Mark Kerckhoff
Join me for a series of one-day plein air painting workshops exploring two of Southern California's most distinctive landscapes.
From the dramatic coastline of Laguna Beach to the historic grounds of Mission San Juan Capistrano, each workshop offers an opportunity to work directly from nature, strengthen your drawing and painting skills, and develop a more personal approach to landscape painting.
My instruction emphasizes the fundamentals of plein air painting: drawing, composition, values, color, and the ability to simplify a scene while capturing its essential character.
Whether you are looking to strengthen your existing skills or develop greater confidence painting outdoors, these workshops offer individual instruction, demonstrations, and time to paint on location.
WORKSHOP ONE
Laguna Beach — Coastal Plein Air
Experience the natural beauty of the Laguna Beach coastline, with its distinctive California light, rugged terrain, and coastal vegetation.
We will explore ways to simplify the landscape, organize a strong composition, and interpret the changing effects of light and atmosphere.
